Baptism Preparation
Sign Up for a Baptism Preparation Class Please also see our Policy on Becoming a Godparent and/or Sponsor. We baptize because of Jesus, who said that we must be born of "water and Spirit," and who commanded His Apostles to, "Go out and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit." Baptism cleanses from original sin and personal sin, abrogates all punishment due to sin, places one in a condition of justice in God's sight, makes that person a son or daughter of God by adoption, and joins the person to Christ and to Christ's Church. Any person not already baptized may be baptized. Older children and adults must first go through a period of learning and discernment, which is conducted by our R.C.I.A. team, sometimes in conjunction with our Religious Education program. Parents who are members of St. Catherine's parish may present their infants for baptism after registering and completing the preparation program as described above. Baptisms are celebrated on a Sunday at 1:00 P.M. Please also see our Policy on Becoming a Godparent and/or Sponsor. The Sacrament of Baptism is celebrated on a Sunday at 1:00 P.M. Baptismal Preparation families, along with Godparents, are invited to celebrate with the family that day. Arrangements for all Baptisms must be made in advance by contacting the parish office at 732-938-5375. 
Attendance at Baptism Prep classes is mandatory for parents. Sponsors (godparents) also are encouraged to attend. 
Peter said to them, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is made to you and to your children and to all those far off, whomever the Lord our God will call."
