St. Catherine's Sacristan
The Sacristan is appointed by the Pastor of the church and is responsible for the Sacristy and church-related ceremonial equipment.
The Sacristy, located in the narthex (lobby) of the church is a room used for holding liturgical vestments (priests' and deacons' albs, stoles, and chasubles) and sacred vessels and ritual books.
The Working Sacristy in St. Catherine's is located across from the office kitchen and holds additional materials for use in the church.
Qualifications of the Sacristan
- Registered member of St. Catherine of Siena parish
- Have a willingness to develop a basic knowledge of liturgical rites
- Willingness to work with Pastor and various ministries
- Self-motivated and able to follow through
Responsibilities of the Sacristan
- maintain and prepare all items needed for celebrations (daily mass, weekly mass, funerals, weddings, baptisms, holy days)
- ensure a ready supply of wine, hosts, purificators, corporals, hand towels, incense and charcoal
- wash and iron altar linens
- clean and replenish holy water stoups located in narthex
- exchange expired missals for new ones
- order all materials for masses and special holidays
- ensure that a list of intentions is available for weekly and daily masses
- change linens for different seasons of the church and for special holy days
- decorate church for Easter and Christmas
- prepare chapel for First Fridays
- prepare chapel for Benediction Services held on Sunday evenings during Advent
- organize receptions following Benediction Services
- organize and prepare Lenten Soup Suppers on Fridays during Lent
- set up for Stations of the Cross
- collect and count moneys contributed through candle collection and Poor Box
- maintain cleanliness of chapel
- semi-yearly polish all metal items (chalices, ciboriums, tabernacle, etc.)
- work with Youth Group to accomplish several tasks
- work with other ministries
