St. Vincent de Paul News

Dear Fellow Parishioners,

December 13, 2015 - St. Vincent de Paul would like to thank our parishioners, Religious Education students and Youth Group for their help in making our Thanksgiving Food Drive such a success. Thanks to your support we were able to provide overflowing baskets to our most needy clients. Your generosity made Thanksgiving possible and special for these families.

November 29, 2015 - Did you know that you can donate to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul every month? SVDP has a new website at donatetosvdp.org. There is a link to make donations directly to SVDP using PayPal. The website has information about the history of SVDP, our services and volunteering. A quick, easy Give link provides a way to make donations that will help to make a difference in our community. A link for Amazon Smile provides a way for your Amazon.com purchases to become a donation. For use of church envelopes, please make the check out to St. Vincent de Paul Society. The needy are always with us. Please consider donating monthly.

August 30, 2015 - The Society of St. Vincent de Paul would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Youth Group for their generous donation. They recently held a successful car wash and kindly shared some of the donations they received with us. These funds will help us continue to help those in need. Thank you to the youth of our Parish Family, Deacon Dan and all those that helped out and those that stopped by with a dirty car!

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul also would like to thank the Christian Yoga Group for another generous donation to our ministry. Our Society thanks you for continuing to support us in our mission to assist our clients.

June 21, 2015 - Through your generosity our ministry has been very busy this month. We have been able to help stop an eviction and prevent a water and electric shut off. We have also provided food and food cards to our clients as well. Thank you for providing the funds that enable us to make a difference in our clients lives.

June 7, 2015 -  The Society of St. Vincent de Paul would like to extend their gratitude to Terry Kelly and the members of Christian Yoga here at St. Catherine's for continuing to support our ministry with their very generous donations. Your donations go a long way in helping the less fortunate within our church boundaries. Thank-you!

May 3, 2015 - Through your continued generosity and support SVDP was able to provide assistance to a single mother with 3 children. We were able to stop a disconnect on her electric service and provide one of her children with a bed. We were also able to provide immediate relief on our home visit with bags of food from our Emergency Food Closet. Thank you for your most generous food and monetary donations. They make a great difference in our client's lives.

November 23, 2014 - The St. Vincent de Paul Society is a world wide Catholic Lay Organization. The SVDP Society here at our Parish assist people that live within our Parish Boundaries who fall on hard times. They do a home visit to determine if with the assistance from SVDP they can move forward. They help people that hit a bump in the road and are employed or receive enough disability to support their expenses. All of the payments are made directly to the landlord or utility company. No funds are given directly to the client.

SVDP is dependent on you, our parishioners, for our funds. They receive the 2nd collection when there are 5 weekends in the month (4-5 times a year). They also receive donations made to the poor box in the foyer and from the SVDP Envelopes in the back of the church. Some parishioners opt to make donations through Parish Pay. More often than not, they have to reach out to other churches for financial assistance with cases that exceed their funds.

Their fiscal year ended September 30th 2014. Dennis O’Brien, their treasurer, completed their 2014 Annual Report outlining the assistance they provided last year. SVDP Members will be handing out this report after Mass today. Please take the time to read it and see the work the SVDP Society was able to do because of your kind and generous donations.

If you would like to attend a meeting and possibly consider joining their ministry, they meet the 2nd Monday of every month from 7:30-8:30 pm in the Parish Hall. New members are always needed and welcomed!

Finally, please continue to support their ministry. Every donation you make helps make a bigdifference in someone's life. Thank you!

November 9, 2014 - Please join the Youth Group, Religious Ed., and SVDP as we serve the needy families of our parish this holiday by providing them with Thanksgiving Food Baskets. We are collecting non-perishable food items until November 19th. You may bring your food donations to church and leave them in the baskets in the narthex of the church. As always we deeply appreciate your devotion to our ministry and those we serve. Thank you for your generosity.

August 24, 2014 - Once again your generous donations have made an enormous difference in a client's life. SVDP was contacted by a single mother with two children who was in need of assistance with one month's rent and payment of her electric bill. She had been working but due to a lengthy illness lost her job causing her to fall behind financially. We were able to pay her rent as well as her electric bill and she has started a new job. Your generosity has allowed this mother to move forward and provide for her children. Thank-you for all you do to support the St. Vincent de Paul Society.

July 27, 2014 - The Society of St. Vincent de Paul would like to thank St. Catherine's Youth Group for their most generous donation. They donated $717.14 to SVDP which were the proceeds of their Youth Group Car Washes. Thank you to Deacon Dan and all the Youth Group members for their hard work and generous hearts. Their hard earned money will help make a huge difference in our client's lives.

July 6, 2014 - Did you know... that if you use Parish Pay, you can donate to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul every month rather than just four times a year? Just log into your Parish Pay account and change your donation schedule for SVDP from quarterly to monthly. The needy are always with us. Please consider donating monthly.

June 29, 2014 - Have you ever thought about joining our ministry? We are in need of Home Visitors. If this is something that you think might interest you or you would consider it there is a VIRTUS training being held at our church on Sept. 13th from 9-12. Please contact Rosa Garcia at 732-683-2492 or Cathy Flott at 732-577-1417 for more information. Thank you for considering this ministry.

June 1, 2014 - Once again because of your generosity and the help of other local churches we were able to make a dramatic difference in a client's life. We were contacted by a man that was in a homeless situation. We helped provide shelter for him in a local motel along with food and gas cards to help assist him in getting to doctors appointments. We were able to move him into a small trailer and set him up with the necessary utilities which he will be able to maintain on his own income. We also furnished his new home through donations. This was a true second chance at a new life. SVDP would like to thank you for generously supporting our ministry.

May 11, 2014 - The Annual Catholic Appeal in Action! - The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is an international Catholic organization of more than 750,000 lay men and women who seek to help the suffering in a spirit of justice and charity through person-to-person involvement. Founded in France in 1833, with St. Vincent de Paul as its patron, in the United States today there are more than 59,000 members in 4,300 conferences.

Vincentians seek through prayer, meditation on Scripture and the teachings of the Church to bear witness to the love of christ through their daily lives and in their relationships with those in need. The Society of St. Vincent de Paul and its work have been encouraged by the Bishops of Trenton to provide a special means for lay-people to participate in the Corporal and Spititual Works of Mercy through a time-tested organization with national and international support.

The first conference in the Diocese of Trenton was organized at St. John the Baptist Church (now Sacred Heart Church), Trenton, in 1859. The last report indicates membership in all four counties of the diocese of 245 active members and 78 associate members. Your gift continues the mission of St. Vincent de Paul right here in central New Jersey.

April 27, 2014 - Through the generosity of our parishioners who attended our Lenten simple soup suppers, $570 was donated to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.

March 30, 2014 - We are in the process of helping a client move out of a homeless situation. The one thing he did own was his car and a recent accident left him safe but his car totaled. He was not at fault and has a rental car for now but in all likelihood will not receive enough money to replace the car he owned. If anyone comes across or is interested in donating a car please let us know. This client is truly a hardship case and he is very grateful for any assistance we have provided him thus far.  Please contact Rosa Garcia @ 732-683-2492 or Cathy Flott @ 732-577-1417 if you have or need any further information regarding a car donation. Once again thank-you for your continued support of SVDP.

March 23, 2014 - We would like to sincerely thank our parishioners for their most tenerous donations to SVDP. Please know that without your financial support we would not be able to make the difference we do in our parish community. this winter we were able to provide 11 families with assitance with propane, oil, kerosene and natural gas. Thank you once again for all you do to suppor our ministry whether it be through food donations, monetary donations, the giving tree or Thanksiving food drive. None of it would be possible without you.
