Lectio Divina

Do you want to deepen your appreciation and understanding of the Word of God? Are you looking for ways to enrich your experience of the Sunday Liturgy and better connect the Sunday readings with weekday priorities? Consider Lectio Divina. What is Lectio Divina? Lectio Divina is Latin for "divine reading," "spiritual reading," or "holy reading" and represents a method of prayer and scriptural reading intended to promote communion with God and provide special spiritual insights. There are eight steps involved in this prayer form:

  1. Opening Prayer
  2. Reading of the Gospel (What the Word says)
  3. Explanation (What the Word means)
  4. Meditation (What the Word means to me)
  5. Questions for reflection (What the Word asks of me)
  6. Word of Life (What the Word reminds me)
  7. Action (What the Word tells me to do)
  8. Final Prayer (What the Word makes me pray)

We study and reflect on the Gospel of the Sunday’s liturgy so that it may become a means for God to enlighten, nourish, heal, and continue his conversation with us. We open ourselves to God’s presence in Scripture, and respond with our hearts and actions. There is no experience necessary.
